This painting depicts George IV's coronation banquet in July 1821, held in Westminster Hall. Over 2,000 guests ate at the banquet, but many more sat in the galleries to watch the pomp and ceremony.
There was a long tradition of coronation banquets in Westminster Hall, but George IV's was the last one to take place there.
